Katraj murder: Pune police arrest two suspects, two more still on the run

Pune: Police have arrested two suspects in the Katraj murder case which came to light on Friday (August 21) after an elderly woman confessed to her relatives that her grandchildren had murdered a man and buried his dead body under the house in Santosh Nagar at Katraj.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Bhaiyya alias Pratik Suryakant Dakle (21), residing near the Sachchai Mata Mandir in Katraj and Omkar Sanjay Jori, a resident of Dugad Chawl in Santosh Nagar at Katraj. Other two suspects Sameer Jori and Gajanan Pasalkar are still on the run.

The suspects had murdered Kiran Shivaji Dole (27), a resident of Santosh Nagar in Katraj. He was a criminal-on-police-record and was extended from city limits two years ago. Dole's dead body was exhumed from the residence of Jori on Friday afternoon. The body was found stuffed in a gunny bag.

Investigations had revealed that Dole was gagged and throttled to death by the suspects on August 16 night. The crime happened after the suspects were triggered over past enmity and became furious after the victim strangled one of their pets.

The incident came to light when the 65-year-old grandmother of Jori - who had witnessed the crime - revealed the details to their relatives in Lonavala on Friday (August 21). Jori had taken his grandmother to Lonavala, while the other two stayed back and buried the body. Jori and other suspects had again gone to Lonavala at their maternal uncle's place after committing the murder.

Bharati Vidyapeeth police had recorded the statements of the grandmother and other relatives on Friday evening and formed three teams to nab the three suspects. They arrested Omkar Jori on Saturday while the Crime Branch Unit 3 of Pune police nabbed Dakle near Taljai slums later.

Police constable Santosh Kshirsagar had received a tipoff about Dakle and accordingly, police laid a trap to nab him. Dakle is also a criminal-on-police-record with several body offences registered against him in the city police jurisdiction.
