Katraj Dairy helps Aarey Milk in packaging

Pune: Milk packaging and distribution of the Government Milk Scheme (Aarey) in Khadki has come to a standstill due to a major power outage. As milk is an essential commodity, to ensure that its supply does not get affected, especially during the lockdown, the government dairy has decided to continue its packaging at the Katraj dairy plant.

"Last week, due to the storm and rain, the transformer got some problem due to which there was power outage at the Aarey centre in Khadki. Since milk is an essential commodity and in this time of the pandemic, we have to ensure that supply is not affected. Hence, we decided to continue its packaging at Katraj Dairy and maintain the supply," said Prashant Mohod, Regional dairy Development officer.

He said, "Usually, a small fault gets easily repaired. However, this time a tree fell on the transformer completely damaging it. Therefore, it is taking time and but it will be repaired soon as we have already sent the budget provision proposal to the state government. Most likely, the work will be done in a week. However, till then there should not be any shortage of milk and therefore we have decided to continue the packaging at Katraj dairy."

Dr Vivek Kshirsagar, managing director, Katraj Dairy, said,"There was some power issue at the Aarey dairy for last five to six days. Therefore we have asked them to provide help with packaging. We, as a cooperative dairy, must help them. Therefore we are providing our facility centre to them for packaging of the milk."
