PIMPRI: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Nana Kate on Thursday took over as the Leader of the Opposition in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Kate assumed the charge in the presence of outgoing Leader of the Opposition Datta Sane, former mayor Mangala Kadam and party’s other corporators.
The post had fallen vacant following resignation by Sane after completing a year.
Later, speaking to media persons, Kate said that the ruling BJP had turned the ‘Best’ Pimpri Chinchwad city into a ‘Waste’ city.
The city is facing garbage management problems, he said and added that the ruling party had also cheated the residents by not fulfilling its promise of the repeal of the Shasti (penalty) tax.
Kate said that NCP President Sharad Pawar and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar had reposed faith in him by selecting him for the post.
