IVF helps Pune woman deliver twins

Pune: A 34-year-old woman suffering from hypopituitarism delivered twins with the help of In-Vitro-Fertilisation (IVF) at a city-based hospital. She was suffering from failure of the pituitary gland because of an infection at the age of 22. Due to this infection, she was not able
to conceive.

Previous two efforts towards helping her conceive with the help of IVF had failed. Hence, she was admitted for treatment under Dr Girish Pote at the Aundh IVF centre of SaiShree Hospital.

Dr Girish Pote, the IVF expert at SaiShree Hospital, said that hypopituitarism rules out the possibility of a woman having babies.
IVF is the only option that can be tried in such a situation. With potential danger to the patient’s life, IVF turns out to be a challenge for doctors too. A strong desire of the patient has resulted in the birth of healthy twins and the mother too is alright now, said Dr Pote.

IVF experts Dr Girsh Pote and Dr Yashwant Mane achieved success in this case after nine months of continuous efforts.

Effects of hypopituitarism

It produces many hormones that travel throughout the body, directing certain processes or stimulating other glands to produce other hormones.

Failure of this process is known as hypopituitarism.

This may result in weakness of muscles, excretion of hot vapours through the body and women having either reduced menstruation or no menstruation at all, thus leading to her not being able to conceive.
