It will be a wet Diwali, light rains will continue in city: IMD

PUNE: With two major systems in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, Pune and Maharashtra will witness a wet Diwali. Light rains will continue in the city till October 28. For October 25, thundery activity with lightning, very light to light rain are very likely, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.

According to the IMD, Konkan and Goa will receive very heavy rainfall at isolated places on October 25. Whereas central Maharashtra and Marathwada will witness isolated rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning during the same time.

WEATHER SYSTEM IN ARABIAN SEA
A depression has formed over the east-central Arabian Sea and lay centred at west-southwest of Ratnagiri, 490 km south-west of Mumbai (Maharashtra) and 1,750 km east-southeast of Salalah (Oman).

As per an official statement by the IMD, it is very likely to intensify into a deep depression by October 25 morning. It will further intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 25 evening.

Then it is likely to re-curve and move nearly westwards towards south Oman and adjoining Yemen coast with gradual intensification in the coming days. 

WEATHER SYSTEM IN BAY OF BENGAL
The other well-marked low-pressure area persists over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining area of South Odisha and West-Central Bay of Bengal.

Under the influence of the above systems, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy falls likely over Konkan and Goa and Coastal Karnataka.

IMD has predicted heavy rainfall at a few places over Odisha till October 25 evening and over Assam and Meghalaya during October 25 and October 26.
