Inter-collegiate elocution competition held in city

Pune: Marathwada Mitra Mandal's College of Commerce (MMCC) in collaboration with Anti-Dowry Movement, Mumbai organised the 26th inter-collegiate elocution competition.

Since 25 years the college has been conducting this programme with a view to sensitise the youths about the evils of dowry, especially in the 21st century.

From among 40 colleges affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) including Nagar, Nashik and Pune districts, there were a total of 80 participants for this competition. Madhukar Kokate, former collector of Pune and former chairman of MPSC inaugurated the event. Pro-Vice Chancellor of SPPU, NS Umarani was present as chief guest.

Kokate appreciated the efforts of the college and anti-dowry movement for their tireless pursuit of eradicating the evil of dowry and expressed hope on the present generation to fight successfully against it. "It will be today's youths who will eventually transform society, its evil thinking and doings," said Kokate.

The first three places were bagged by Saurabh Chavan from Modern College, Mrugaja Deshmukh, Modern Law College and Vishakha Shewale, Sangvi Kesari College, Chinchwad.
