Incomplete road work irks commuters

PUNE: People travelling to Hinjawadi for work every day are still waiting for completion of an alternative road from Mahalunge to Maan even a year after it began.

The road, once completed, will relieve traffic congestion at Hinjawadi bridge in Wakad and will provide an alternative shorter route to those travelling from Baner, Aundh, Sus and Pashan to Hinjawadi.

The residents staying in Maan and Hinjawadi Phase 3 have to travel for more than 30 minutes to reach Baner, which will reduce to 15 minutes if the road is completed.  President of Hinjawadi Employees and Residents Trust (HEART) and an IT professional, Dnyanendra Hulsure, said, “The alternative road which starts from Mahalunge and ends at Maan connects all the major areas of the city including Baner, Balewadi, Kothrud, Pashan, Aundh and Warje. The alternative road is not completed yet, as the last patch of the road of 1.5 km is still pending. We have been following up with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) but we are not getting a proper reply.”

Speaking on the issue, Commissioner of PMRDA Vikram Kumar said, “There were several land acquisition issues but most of them are solved. We are constructing the road patch-wise. The construction of remaining 1.5 km road is stuck because of delay in land acquisition.”

He said the issue will be cleared in next 15 days.

“We will acquire the land and then give it to MIDC to construct the road. And the whole process will take at least another six to eight months to complete the whole 4-km road.”

A member of HEART and an IT professional Rahul Sonawane, resident of Essencia Heights, Mahalunge, situated in front of Balewadi stadium, said, “My office is situated in

Hinjawadi Phase 1 and the distance from my residence to office is 6 km. Right now, it takes me around 30 minutes to reach office every day during peak hours.

If the alternate road is constructed then it would take me less than 15 minutes to reach office.”

Resident of Prem Shanti Society in Maan, Suhas Jagtap, said, “The concerned authority should have completed the road till now because once the monsoon starts, the work will be again delayed. Soon the Metro work will also start, then again the traffic chaos will increase.”
