IISF to be held in Kolkata between November 5 and 8

PUNE: “The annual India International Science Festival (IISF) will be held in Kolkata,” announced National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) Director Manoj Kumar Bhat at a press conference here on Wednesday. 

The event was organised jointly by Science & Technology Ministry and departments of the Government of India and Vijnana Bharati (Vibha) and will take place between November 5 and 8.  This is the fifth edition since its inception in 2015.

“The theme for this year’s festival is RISEN India – Research, Innovation, and Science Empowering the Nation,” he said, adding he expects 12,000 participants from India and abroad. 

IISF 2019 will host more than 28 events. Detailed information is available on www.scienceindiafest.org. 

A vast exhibition of India’s scientific and technological prowess would be on display. The role of women scientists and entrepreneurs in shaping the scientific growth trajectory will be another highlight. The programme (Women Scientists & Entrepreneurs Conclave) aspires to develop new entrepreneurship and explore new vistas of opportunities in the field of science and technology among women. Seven hundred women will attend the event.

OPEN DAY AT NCCS
National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS) at Pune organised an open day on Wednesday, which was a prelude to the 5th IISF 2019. The event was announced widely through flyers sent to academic institutions, newspapers, social media, emails and by word-of-mouth.

The Open Day commenced with opening remarks by NCCS Director Bhat. Manasi Malgaonkar, representative of VIBHA gave a talk. Dr Anjali Shiras involved in cancer biology spoke on various aspects of cancer. The open day provided students and the public an opportunity to learn about the cutting-edge technologies used in cell biology research by visiting the bioimaging, FACS, proteomics and bioinformatics facilities of NCCS. They had the opportunity to see displays of animal cell cultures and microbiological samples, organised by the animal cell repository and the National Centre for Microbial Resources (NCMR) of NCCS. Large numbers of people of different age groups and backgrounds visited NCCS throughout the day.
