Pune: Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA)
Chief Kiran Gitte, on Sunday, said that the proposed Mumbai-Pune Hyperloop project has been approved by the State government and it has also been designated as an important public transport project.
The PMRDA Chief Gitte said that the DP World FZE and Hyperloop Technologies have been selected as the ‘Original Project Proponent’. A designated officer will also be elected to monitor the progress of the proposed project.
While the pre-feasibility study of the Hyperloop has already been done.
Gitte also said that the company will build a test track of 15 km in the initial phase and would later develop the entire project.
Gitte said, “The project will be implemented by the Swiss challenge method where project details will be published by us and third parties will be invited to match the bid.”
The PMRDA has also submitted the feasibility report of the hyperloop corridor to IIT Mumbai in order to finalise the connecting point in Mumbai.
Hyperloop, which is still a developing technology, comprises floating pods within low-pressure tubes.
This new transport system is expected to cover the distance between Mumbai and Pune in 25 minutes.
