Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar metro proj approved

The Central governemnet finally gave a nod to the long pending metro proj

Pune: The Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar metro project which was stuck in the approval process with government organisations, finally got a nod from the Central government on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Sakal Times had reported that the approval process was stuck due to various questions from the government as the project is supposed to be developed on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.  PMRDA Chief Kiran Gitte had replied seven times to government authorities on queries raised by the latter in the project.

Earlier, Gitte had said that if PMRDA is declared as special planning authority for the metro project, then it can raise funds through the transit-oriented development process. The 23.3 km Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro line will be built at a cost of around Rs 8,000 crore and the government has approved Rs 1,300 crore for the project.
