PUNE: Heavy rains lashed Pune city on Wednesday evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more spells of rain in various parts of the city in the coming days.
Sources said that areas like Karve Nagar, Shivajinagar, Deccan and Sinhagad Road experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday. The city recorded 51.8 mm rain on Wednesday.
The IMD has predicted heavy rains in the northern part of central Maharashtra and some parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha in the coming days. Heavy rains have been predicted in parts of Konkan and Goa.
When contacted, IMD officials said the southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, west, central and northwest Bay of Bengal and some parts of south Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
According to the data available with IMD, in the past 24 hours some parts of central Maharashtra and Marathwada experienced heavy rainfall. The officials said that many parts of Goa, Konkan and Vidarbha too received spells of rain in last two days.
According to IMD, the conditions are likely to become more favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon in more parts of Central Maharashtra, Gujarat, remaining parts of Marathwada and parts of Vidarbha in the coming days.
“In the coming 3-4 days, the monsoon is also likely to advance to some more parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, remaining parts of West Bengal and some parts of Jharkhand and Bihar,” said the officials.
