PUNE/PIMPRI: BJP’s Pimpri Chinchwad Unit President and sitting MLA Laxman Jagtap has achieved a hat-trick of winning from Chinchwad Assembly seat, defeating his rival and Shiv Sena rebel Rahul Kalate with a margin of 30,000 votes.
Elsewhere, BJP’s Madhuri Misal secured the Parvati Constituency for third consecutive time.
Misal won by 36,767 votes in the State Assembly elections 2019. Misal has received a total of 97,012 votes, while her counterpart Ashwini Kadam of Nationalist Congress Party has got 60,245 votes. In the 2014 State Assembly election, Misal won with a total of 95,583 votes. In 2009, she secured 64,959 votes in her favour.
Kalate, Shiv Sena group leader in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, was supported by the NCP, Congress and MNS. Incidentally, Jagtap had in 2014 elections defeated Kalate with a margin of 60,000 votes.
NCP leaders Ajit Pawar and MP Dr Amol Kolhe had campaigned for Kalate, while Minister Panjaka Munde had addressed a poll rally in Thergaon for Jagtap. Jagtap also received the support of the network of the RSS volunteers.
