Hasten land acquisition process for flyover: Bapat to PMC

Pune: District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat instructed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to speed up the land acquisition process for the Chandni Chowk flyover. The land is to be handed over by the PMC to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The instructions were issued at a meeting held at VVIP circuit house on Saturday. The stone laying ceremony for this project was held on August 27 in the presence of Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and NCP President Sharad Pawar, but since then the work has not seen any progress.

Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Dalvi, District Collector Saurabh Rao, Additional Commissioner of PMC Sheetal Teli-Ugale, NHAI Project Director SD Chitnis and others were present. The project requires 14 hectares of land and half of the land falls in Biodiversity Park (BDP) zone. Bapat said that he would convene a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the delayed land acquisition due to its location in Biodiversity Park (BDP) zone.

Bapat said that the flyover is necessary to prevent growing number of accidents in the area. He urged NHAI officials to speed up the construction once the land acquisition is completed by the PMC. Bapat urged officials to ensure co-ordination between different agencies to avoid unnecessary expenditure while carrying out different projects with NHAI.

He said that the development of pilgrimage twin towns Alandi and Dehu should be looked into while work in being undertaken for six-laning of Dive Ghat. Bapat took a review of ongoing work under NHAI and instructed the authorities to complete the incomplete road work till March next year.
