Hand grenade-like object detonated by BDDS near railway station

PUNE: Following the discovery of a hand grenade-like object on Tadiwala Road near Pune railway station, chaos ensued in the area on Friday afternoon.

The object was carefully neutralised by officials of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the remnants were sent to the forensic lab for investigation.

The Bundgarden police said at noon, a sweeper spotted the object and immediately alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP).

Officials of the city police and the BDDS also rushed to the spot.

The officials said after scrutiny, the BDDS took the object to the nearby RPF ground where it was securely detonated.

While officials are unaware of how the object reached the location, they have informed the defence establishment about the incident.

Senior Police Inspector Sunil Tambe of the Bundgarden police station said that samples collected from the remnants of the detonated object have been sent to the forensic lab for analysis. “The case is being investigated and we are hoping the forensic analysis will provide vital clues to trace the source of the object,” Tambe said.
