Guardian Minister reviews flood situation

PUNE: Pune District Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil has asked the district administration to carry out a detailed ‘panchanama’ of the flood-affected people so that the government would be able to assist them. 

In all, 13,000 flood-affected people were relocated to shelters by the administration in the district. 

In a meeting at Balewadi sports complex on Tuesday morning, Patil reviewed the flood situation in the district. The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar, Collector Naval Kishore Ram, political leaders, heads of Pune 

and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations and other senior government officials. Patil asked the Public Works Department to carry out a structural audit of all bridges. 

Chandrakant Patil said, “The department should assure that roads are fit to use. As the flood situation can lead to outbreak of diseases, the Health Department should replenish necessary stock at the earliest. Based on predictions of heavy rainfall, all government authorities should work in synergy, which will help the people.” 

Bala Bhegade, Minister of State for Labour, Environment and Rehabilitation said due to the ongoing metro work in the city, there is waterlogging at different spots and authorities should take a note of it to avoid inconvenience to people. 

Collector Naval Kishore Ram said a detailed report of the flood-affected people will be prepared and the compensation amount will be deposited in bank accounts of these people.

Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar said the flood situation in Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli is grim and people should be alert to avoid mishaps. 

“Of the 58 talukas in Pune division, 30 talukas are flooded. Of 103 bridges in Pune division, about 34 are submerged.” 

“Three talukas in Kolhapur are disconnected due to flooding. Certain sections of Satara-Kolhapur route are submerged in water. The NDRF team and other government authorities are on their toes round-the-clock to rescue affected people,” added Mhaisekar.

Authorities said 7,440 transformers are damaged in Pune division affecting about 2.5 lakh people.
