Pune: The Government Railway Police (GRP) at Pune Railway junction has nabbed a drug smuggler and confiscated 7.6 kilogram charas worth Rs 22.74 lakh from him. The contraband was smuggled into the city with an aim to sell it to youngsters in the city, police said.
The person, identified as 34-year-old Chamanlal Hariram Soni, of Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, was carrying 17 packets of charas (cannabis).
As per information shared by GRP Senior PI Sureshsingh Gaud, “During a routine patrol, a team of GRP found one person loitering around ‘Ghoda Siding Running Room’ at Pune Railway Station in a suspicious manner. The police questioned and then detained him only to find that he was carrying whopping 7.6 kilogram charas on his person.”
“The arrested person is a habitual offender and we are interrogating him to know the entire supply chain. The contraband is manufactured in Kullu, Simla and other areas of Himachal and is sent to Pune for sale in Pune and Mumbai. We are investigating the case to bust the entire ring,” said Goud.
GRP has obtained Soni’s custody till November 4.
He has been booked under the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
The action was taken by Sureshsingh Gaud including constable Santosh Lakhe, Madhav Kendre, Sanjay Sonawane, Police Naik Ganesh Shinde, Ashok Gaikwad, Gangadhar Ipper, Kailash Jadhav and Srikant Bonakriti.
