FTII, SRFTI slash fees of JET 2020

PUNE: City-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and Kolkata-based Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) have jointly announced reduction in the joint entrance test (JET) 2020 fee.

This development will be effective immediately for admissions to both the institutes.

In the past, students of both institutions had held a series of protests on the issue of hike in JET fee and of different courses. On December 16, 2019, four students of 2017 batch FTII began an indefinite hunger strike against the ‘high’ entrance exam fee. Following this, the governing council in its special meeting held on December 27, 2019, had recommended to set up a committee to decide on the matter.

On Saturday, a five-member committee headed by chairman of FTII governing council decided the new application fee structure (see table) for courses from three groups -- A, B, and C.

The fee structure earlier was Rs 4,000 each for two courses from any two groups out of the three and Rs 2,000 for the third course. For SC, ST and PwD category candidates, the fee structure was Rs 1,250 each for the two courses and Rs 625 for the third course.

Candidates who have already applied as per the earlier announced fee structure will be refunded the difference, stated an official statement released by the institutes. The officials also informed that the committee will now take up the review of the fee structure of regular courses in FTII.
