Free-of-cost fashion designing course for women from economically weak sections

PUNE: Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board’s The Handmade Paper Institute (HMPI) has signed an MoU with a Mumbai-based NGO Audyogik Vyavsya Margdarshan Kendra (AVMK) to start a one-month certificate course in Advanced Fashion Designing and Advanced Tailoring. It is a residential course which is free-of-cost for the women from financially weaker sections of society and will begin from November 29.

The eligibility criteria for this course is to know basic tailoring and the candidates should belong to the families with an annual income of below Rs 2.5 lakh. The selection process started from November 25 at the institute. 

Pramod Deshpande, Instructor, HMPI, said, “We have started the selection process from Monday and as of now, we have received 18 applicants. However, we are aiming for at least 100 students for this course. There will be four batches with each comprising around 30 students. These candidates will be given a certificate and also will be provided with free accommodation throughout the course.”

Jaiprakash Hanumante, course coordinator of AVMK, said, “Under this course, we will focus more on designing and structural part as the candidates who will be trained should know basic tailoring. We want to groom and make them independent. After the completion of the course, we will review their work and supporting them. After completion of this course, they will be eligible for various loan schemes of the government.”
