Fraudster posing as Army officer arrested

PUNE: A  history sheeter on police record who is allegedly involved in a cheating case was arrested by officials of Crime Branch Unit I. The arrested accused was identified as Rahul Siddhu (42), a resident of Sasanenagar in Hadapsar. As per Police Inspector Arun Waykar of Crime Branch Unit I,  Rushikesh Somase, resident of Warje, had lodged  a case with the city police after he was cheated by a person. 

Rushikesh had placed an advertisement on a web portal to sell his old mobile phone. He was contacted by a person who claimed to be an Indian Army officer. The fraudster asked Somase to meet him near War Memorial Chowk in Ghorpadi. When Somase went there, the latter told him that he is getting late as he has to join his duty and chose to pay the amount for the mobile phone by cheque. When Somase tried to encash the cheque it bounced. He then approached the police and lodged a case against the unidentified person.

The police said while investigating the case they received a tip-off about the involvement of Rahul in the case. They laid a trap and nabbed Rahul in Sasanenagar. The police have recovered the mobile phone from him. The police said Rahul has seven cases of cheating against him in Pune, Ahmednagar, Nevasa, Shirdi and other locations. The police are are investigating if the accused cheated more people in the city.
