Foreign delegation appreciates Pune Smart City projects

PUNE: A delegation consisting of 27 professionals in the field of infrastructure development from 22 different countries made a special study tour of Pune Smart City projects and appreciated the work. The Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) is sharing insights and knowledge with various delegations from local to global level and playing a role of mentor. 

The visit of the delegation of 27 international professionals from 22 countries was a part of 'Training Program of Overseas Professionals' on 'Planning, Designing Aspects of Smart Cities' organised by Human Settlement Management Institute, a research and training wing of Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO). The delegation had representation from countries like Afghanistan, Armenia, Bhutan, Botswana, Cambodia, Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guatemala, Iraq, Kenya, Lesotho, Mauritius, Nepal, Niger, Russia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. 

At the same time, another delegation from South Korea consisted of top officers of Incheon Smart City – Duckil Kim, Director of Technical Operations, Hoe Kim, General Manager of Technical Operations and Advisor Jong An Sul, Managing Director of WHC Pvt. Ltd also visited the city. 

Shankar Reddy, Joint Director of National Institute of Defence Estate Management (NIDEM) along with a team of 15 fellow officers from NIDEM also visited various projects undertaken by PSCDCL. Earlier, Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary of India Durga Shankar Mishra and Indu Jakhar, IAS, Additional Secretary, MoHUA took a review of Smart City projects separately. 

Also, the Russian team of advisors from the Advisory Institute Strelka visited Pune Smart City. The PSCDCL representatives welcomed the delegations and gave them a detailed presentation during their study visit of Smart City projects. 

Top officials and professionals who have considerable experience of working at senior positions in their respective states choose to visit Pune due to its successful and innovative projects. These delegates have an interaction with the Pune Smart City’s officers on the implementation of Smart City projects. This includes knowledge sharing sessions with PSCDCL officials of respective projects during the visit to Smart City Operations Centre (SCOC) on Sinhagad Road. During their visits, the delegations also make site visits to learn about projects like Smart Command and Control Centre, Smart Street Redesign, Smart Placemaking sites, and Smart Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) which was recently awarded by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. 

Assan Colley from the Gambia said, “Pune’s progress towards a Smart City is wonderful. The projects of international standard initiated under Pune Smart City would be certainly beneficial to the citizens here and also to us to implement them back in our respective countries. Therefore, Pune visit during our India tour has been special for us.” 

Indu Jakhar, Assistant Secretary, Smart Cities Mission, MoHUA during her visit said, “It was a very good experience to visit Pune Smart City, because as compared to the rest of the smart cities, Pune has taken many initiatives in a very comprehensive manner.”
