Food Bank Takes Off In Kondhwa
60 kids from slums of Upper Kondhwa are fed every day
PUNE: Three organisations, AL Khadeem Foundation, Tuba Foundation and Yug Foundation have jointly started the initiative of ‘Food Bank’ or langar in Kondhwa this month.
For the last 12 days, they have been providing evening dinner for free to 60 to 70 children who live in the slum areas of Upper Kondhwa.
Apart from providing home-cooked food to these slum children, these organisations are also focussing on giving value education to these children by engaging them in fun activities.
Meenakshi Rathod (11), student of the Std VII said, “We are coming for 12 days and every day we get different variety of food to eat. We also get to play a lot of games with our friends.”
Vaishnavi Garad (9), who also lives in Upper Kondhwa said, “It was so much fun to come here and play with all our friends. The food is also very nice and every day we have been asked about our choice in food and accordingly meals are prepared.”
“We have started this food bank since 12 days for the cause of humanity. A lot of children in our country suffer from malnutrition and this is our effort to provide food to these children,” said Pari Hamdule of Tuba Foundation.
Salim Patekari of Al Khadeem Foundation, one of the three organisations, said, “It’s our effort to provide food to the children from the underprivileged community.”
Kanav Chauhan of Yug Foundation said, “The malnutrition problem in our country is very grave and Yug Pune has been constantly identifying poverty-stricken families and has taken the initiative to support this food bank.”
