Flight delay at Pune, Delhi airports irks passengers

PUNE: Over 180 fliers of SpiceJet flights, each at the Delhi and Pune airports, were stranded due to flight delays for two consecutive days on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The Tuesday night flight from Delhi to Pune got delayed for over four hours while on Wednesday at Pune airport, the flight was delayed for over three hours.

According to the passengers at Delhi airport, Spice Jet flight SG 8938 was scheduled to depart for Pune at 4.55 pm. The passengers had already boarded the flight, but it didn’t take off. They were kept waiting inside the flight for hours, after which they were asked to deplane and made to wait until 9 pm on the tarmac itself.

On Tuesday, the Pune to Delhi flight (SG 8937) was delayed by over three hours. The passengers raised the issue on tweeter about the delay. The Spice Jet replied to them saying the flight was delayed due to the closure of the runway at the Pune airport. The flight was supposed to depart at 7.20 am and to arrive at Delhi at 9.40 am. As per the information provided by a Pune airport official, the runway is closed at 9 am daily for the practice of the Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets, which is a routine. The runway later opens at 11 am.

However, the airline spokesperson said SpiceJet flight SG 8938 Delhi-Pune (Tuesday) was delayed due to a technical issue. Today’s SpiceJet flight SG 8937 Pune-Delhi was delayed as a result of a consequential delay on the previous rotation.
