Fliers to enjoy customised meals at Pune Airport

Pune: Fliers travelling from Pune Airport will soon have the facility to enjoy customised meals as the airport authorities are set to install seven automatic vending machines (AVMs) in the arrival and departure areas for the convenience of commuters.

According to officials at the airport, the AVMs will be useful for passengers to get fresh food if they don’t want to buy from food outlets inside the terminal building. “The trend is changing now and fliers want soft beverages. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to install 22 AVMs at Pune, Goa and Indore airports. The AAI has invited tenders for installation of soft food beverages vending machines at the airport for availability of items at affordable prices,” said a Pune Airport official.

The vending machines must accept any combination of rupee coins and currency notes, besides debit and/or credit cards.

“The ground area covered by the vending machines should be less than or equal to 1.5 sq mt. Passengers can use debit or credit card to buy beverages. They machine will accept coins as well as currency notes. The machine will accept only actual price,” said Airport Director Ajay Kumar.

The AVMs will serve passengers mineral water, non-alcoholic drinks and fruit juices. Although, passengers can avail soft drinks and tea and coffee inside the terminal, the cost is comparatively high. Tenders have been invited for installing the tea and coffee vending machines both inside and outside the terminal for providing the facility at cheaper rates, said an official.
