Fire Department gets nod for recruitment

PUNE: The Fire Department which is facing staff crunch will get relief from staff crunch as the State government has allowed it to appoint 50 personnel on  daily wage basis.

The department has a sanctioned strength of 910 employees, out of which 466 posts are vacant. “We requested the government for a recruitment drive as there was acute shortage of staff,” said Chief Fire Officer Prashant Ranpise. “But now we can get at least 50 new hands for help,” he added. These workers will be paid Rs 600 daily and will work round-the-clock in shifts comprising seven hours in the morning shift and from 9 pm to 7 am at night.

He said the Pune population demands 35 fire stations but there are only 14 stations. Each station has only 3 to 4 men per shift which is less as per the population.
