Farmer registrations begin to procure moong and urad

PUNE: MAHA-FPC, a state-level Farmer Producer Company, will start the procurement of moong and urad in 17 districts of Marathwada, Vidarbha and western Maharashtra under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) programme.

Maha-FPC Managing Director Yogesh Thorat said, “The wholesale prices of moong and urad were less than the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and to assure MSP under PSS, Maha-FPC will start the procurement of urad and moong from October 1 while the registration of farmers has started from September 15.”

He further said, “Our target was to procure around 9,000 MT of moong and 10,700 MT of urad by the end of December. We will procure everything at farm gate level that will ensure that farmers will not incur any transportation cost. In this, we will be working with 92 FPC’s and aim to reach around one lakh farmers.”

Other than FPCs, the Maharashtra State Cooperative Marketing Federation and Vidarbha Cooperative Marketing Federation will also participate in the operation.

“Soyabean will also be a part of this procurement programme. However, the dates for the same will be finalised by the end of September,” added Thorat.
