Exams should not be conducted on Maha-Pariksha Portal: Protesters

PUNE: While students and associations in the State are that Mahapariksha portal, which conducts many of the government examinations, be dissolved alleging various anomalies and corruption, the State government has issued guidelines to conduct these examinations more efficiently on the portal.

Various departments and field offices of State government conduct examinations for purposes of recruitment and entry to academic programmes through online Maha-Pariksha portal. MahaIT is handling the Maha-Pariksha Portal. However, protesters have been demanding that all examinations should be conducted through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC).

For the smooth and hassle-free examinations via ‘Maha Pariksha’ portal (www.mahapariksha.gov.in), the State government has issued certain guidelines. As per the guidelines, “The examination should be held only in AICTE/ state/ university approved/ recognised / registered (government recognised) colleges/ educational institutes. No examination shall be held in any other premises. Also, sufficient private security and police arrangement shall be provided in addition to internal security in examination centres. IT security including password protection, encryption and usage of protected PDF files shall be ensured. Every examination should be clearly covered by CCTV for all students. Audits shall be conducted from time to time and there shall be compliance to all audit findings as soon as possible.”

To maintain the quality of the examinations, the GR issued by the State in this regard further states that the examinations must be held in a timely manner and their results will also be published in time.

“Peer review should be done for both the question paper and before publishing the answer key. The questions need to be set as per the syllabus provided by the concerned department, and the question bank must have a sufficiently large number of questions as a reserve for authoring the question paper. Also, sample question papers should be made available on Maha-Pariksha portal before the examination,” it said.

To ensure that there are no malpractices in the examination, the guidelines also state that it should be ensured that a candidate will be able to take only one attempt of the examination for any given post for which more than one slot is taking place for the same post.
