Elderly woman files FIR against daughter, son-in-law for cheating

PUNE: A 70-year-old woman from Sangvi has lodged a complaint against her daughter and son-in-law for duping her of Rs one crore. The FIR has been registered with the Hinjawadi police station.

The woman stated in her complaint that the two accused persons had taken Rs 67 lakh from her for purchasing land in the latter’s name in Kolhapur and also sold her land near Hinjawadi for Rs 35 lakh without her knowledge. Her daughter runs a beauty parlour while son-in-law is a site supervisor. Both live in Jaisingpur in Kolhapur district.

“With a promise of taking good care in my old age after my husband’s death in 2008 and with the assurance of buying land and build a house for me, they emotionally persuaded me to come to Jaisingpur and stay with them. Soon, they lured me into withdrawing huge amounts of cash and money transfers of over Rs 70 lakh (which I had got from selling my bungalow in Pune), on the pretext of buying land for me. I gave them all my savings but they bought land/property in their own names while making me believe that it was in my name,” she stated in her complaint.

Later, when she demanded money for cancer treatment of her elder son, the accused refused to give money. In 2015, the accused had beaten her up and thrown her out of their house.

To file the case, the elderly woman was running from the police station till Prime Minister’s office. Finally, after the intervention of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner RK Padmanabhan, the case was registered on Monday at Hinjawadi police station.

The police have charged the accused persons for cheating, breach of trust and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
