Ela Foundation holds workshop on nature conservation

PUNE: Renowned ornithologist and conservationist Satish Pande, Director of Ela Foundation, organised an awareness and sensitisation drive on nature conservation for more than 500 personnel of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) group 1 at Ramtekdi, Hadapsar, on Saturday. The personnel included cadets, officers and members of the police on the protection of habitat and nature conservation.

The workshop was organised jointly by Rotary Club of Poona West (RCPW), along with the Foundation, for the young minds in the police department. Pande said, “It is important to conserve our fragile ecosystem and, for that, we need to raise awareness among the young officers. In its quest to empower the various government organisations like police, revenue, power, irrigation, forest, etc, we need to have a lecture series so that these young officials can spread awareness wherever they are posted.”

Chandrakant Thakare, PSI of SRPF group 1 Pune, said, “The workshop gave us knowledge on several issues, which we were not aware of. Henceforth, we too will keep a vigil in the nearby area to look whether there is any destruction of the environment”.
