Pimpri: Eknath Pawar, Leader of the House at Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation asked Corporator Balasaheb Ovhal to resign from the corporator’s post before levelling charges against his own party.
On Tuesday, Ovhal submitted his resignation as member of BJP, citing insecurity among members of Dalit community.
Pawar said, “Since he was elected on the BJP ticket. He should first resign as corporator and then only, he is free to talk against the party.” Pawar added that the party will initiate action against him.
Ovhal announced his intention to contest Assembly election next year from Pimpri constituency, reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidate, but not on BJP’s ticket.
Ovhal is originally a Republican Party of India man and joined the BJP just before civic polls and got elected on BJP’s symbol from Ravet constituency.
Eknath Pawar further added, “We challenge Ovhal to resign from the corporator’s post and approach people again to get elected on his own. Then only can he continue to remain as corporator.”
Announcing his decision on Tuesday at a press conference, Ovhal cited that due to ‘differences with the party ideology’, he resigned from the party.
Ovhal expressed disappointment with BJP over alleged dilution of the Atrocity Act and failure to control atrocities against Dalits in Uttar Pradesh and other states.
