Pune: After the vandalising of ten vehicles by a minor in Warje, another incident has came to light in Sahakar Nagar in which eight persons slashed seat covers of 42 two-wheelers.
The incident occurred on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday in Okirdi Lane near Eknath Mitra Mandal in Sahakar Nagar. The suspects who slashed the seat covers using blades were under the influence of alcohol and were residents of Taljai slums.
The suspects were drinking openly on the road and went berserk after they were ordered to disperse by the police. They left the place and entered the Okirdi lane, where they slashed the seat covers of 42 parked two-wheelers.
Police Inspector Dipak Nikam of Sahakar Nagar police station said, “We were informed about the incident by the locals in the morning after which we started investigating and found that the suspects are residents of Taljai slums. We initially detained 3 to 4 people on suspicion who said that eight people were involved in committing the act and all were in drunken state.”
“These suspects were drinking on the road at 2 am. They were asked by the police to go home. However, they entered the Okirdi lane and started drinking there and at 4 am they went on a rampage and vandalised two-wheelers parked there,” added Nikam.
The police said all the accused were booked for
rioting.
