E-way speed limit may be revised

Pimpri: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has recommended a revision in speed limits on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, suggesting lowering the speed limit in the ghat sections from the present 80 km per hour to 40 or 50 km per hour.

In a proposal submitted to the State Public Works Department, the MSRDC has also suggested keeping the speed limit on the straight section of the expressway to 100 km per hour.

If approved, the new speed limit regulations will be enforced from the next month, sources said. The MSRDC has prepared a development plan of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). Earlier, a private company had conducted a survey of the traffic on the expressway to identify various discrepancies and faults in the existing traffic management. The ITMS development plan has emphasised on the safety of traffic on the expressway.

It is planned to install CCTV cameras on a distance of every two km of the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to monitor the traffic on this busy route. Those violating the traffic rules will be penalised at the kiosks at the nearby toll nakas and food malls.
