Drug trafficking racket busted

PUNE: Sleuths from Khadak police busted a drug trafficking racket and arrested seven people, including three women. They recovered 100 grams of brown sugar, 2.5 kg hash, one car, one scooter, cash and ornaments worth Rs 12,81,000 from the accused.

The drug racket, operated by a woman identified as Aarti Misal, a resident of Lohiya Nagar, stretched its operations across the city and neighbouring Mumbai. The other accused involved in the racket were identified as Pooja Misal, Nilofar Sheikh, Rocky Singh and Azhar alias Chuha Sheikh, all residents of Pune. All five accused, including Aarti Misal, were on the run after two other members of the gang, Navnath Misal and Hussain Sheikh, were arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Cell from Ghorpade Peth on December 1.

Rajendra Mokashi, Police Inspector, Khadak police, said, “We arrested them a week ago from Wagholi on the basis of a tip-off provided by an informer. These people were operating out of Kasewadi, Lohiya Nagar and Harkar Nagar. They used to supply drugs in Pune and some areas of Mumbai. Misal was the main person to operate the racket and she has made a lot of money through drug trafficking and bought flats at various places in the city.”

“The accused are not new to drug operations and have previously been booked by the Pimpri, Khadak and Wanawadi police stations,” added Mokashi.
