Drizzle brings respite after a hot afternoon

Pune: Though Puneites experienced a hot afternoon, the evening saw light pre-monsoon showers at Shivajinagar, Deccan, Erandwane and Pune station on Sunday. Despite the rains, Pune recorded a high of 39.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.9 degrees Celsius.
 
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) noted that the sky will remain clear this week with maximum temperature reaching 38 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, the highest maximum temperature reported in the State was 45 degrees Celsius at Akola and the lowest minimum temperature was 19.5 degrees Celsius at Dahanu. According to the IMD, on Sunday, Kolhapur and Panjim recorded rainfall of 7 mm and 0.2 mm respectively.   

The IMD also noted that heatwave conditions prevailed in some parts of west Rajasthan, MP and Vidarbha on Sunday. In the coming week, IMD has forecast that till May 28, parts of Vidarbha may continue to witness a heatwave-like situation. On May 30, central Maharashtra and Marathwada may experience rainfall with 

According to the IMD, the highest maximum temperature recorded over the plains was 46.5 degrees Celsius at Ganganagar in  west Rajasthan. The IMD has forecast heavy rain over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka and Kerala till May 30.
