Drawing competition to fight child obesity

PUNE: In order to address the problem of child obesity, the Rotary Club of Koregaon Park has initiated a ‘Fight Childhood Obesity’ - Drawing Competition 2019 campaign. The students across State government schools will create awareness on the topic through drawings.

As per the statement released in this regard, reportedly, by 2025, India will have over 17 million obese children and we may stand second among 184 countries in child obesity.

The drawing competition aims to reach maximum students in the schools across the State. While the campaign has already kickstarted, it will continue till November 30 in schools. The children can express their thoughts on healthy habits and dangers of obesity.

Speaking on the need to create awareness about obesity, Maharashtra State Obesity and NCD Taskforce Director Dr Jayasshree Todkkar said, “Obesity raises the risk of non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular, kidney, respiratory diseases and diabetes. Healthy habits like active exercising and a proper diet can prevent or control these diseases. However, obesity has become a threat owing to poor awareness among the masses.”
