Pune: The Pune Netraseva Prathisthan will be felicitating Dr SS Badrinath with the Pune Netraseva National Award.
This announcement was made by President of the organisation Dr Madhusudan Jhanmwar and Acting President Dr Satish Desai at a press conference held at the Patrakar Bhavan on Wednesday.
Pune Netraseva Prathishthan, an organisation that works to provide free eye treatment to the poor and needy, organises various camps across cities in Maharashtra in collaboration with hospitals to provide the best diagnostic and surgical services.
They also conduct awareness lectures on the first day of every camp.
Talking about the work, Dr Jhamwar said, “Over the years, we have successfully conducted almost 10,000 cataract surgeries and also facilitated 250 paediatric cases and currently treat squint-eyed people. We ensure that our life is devoted in providing best eye treatment to poor people, who are unable to afford the treatment.”
He further added, “Dr Badrinath, founder of Shankar Netralaya, is not only the most acclaimed ophthalmologist we have but also a noble man, who devoted his life in treating poor and needy. Thus, it is indeed our honour to felicitate him with the Pune Netraseva National Award.”
Dr SS Badrinath is a renowned doctor, who founded Shankar Netralaya in Chennai, which is a charitable not for profit organisation specialised in eye treatment.
He has also been awarded the Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan by the Government of India.
