Diamond merchant poses as a govt official to dupe 5-star hotel

PUNE: The Crime Branch of Pune city police has arrested a notorious diamond merchant for allegedly duping Conrad Hotel on Mangaldas Road by staying there with three others and not paying the bill of Rs 95,900. One accused person had impersonated as State Additional Chief Secretary Praveen Pardeshi and asked the hotel officials to provide VIP services to them.

The hotel’s commercial director registered an FIR in this regard with Koregaon Park police station on Saturday.  The arrested accused has been identified as Aditya Ashok Jogani, a resident of Napean Sea Road in Mumbai. In the past he has been arrested for cheating several persons, the police said.

The police have also booked Jogani’s accomplices Manav Shaha, Geeta Shaha and Navin Shaha. The accused had sent an email to the hotel for their stay at the hotel.  The fraud came to light when the accused persons didn’t pay bills of Rs 95,900 for hotel rooms, food and other services.

They have been charged for offences under sections 420 (cheating), 170 (impersonating a public servant) under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A magistrate court remanded Jogani in police custody till October 10.
