Devotees queue up for Bappa’s view

Pune: Citizens thronged the pandals of five Manache (revered) Ganpati to take the darshan of the most loved God, Lord Ganesh here in the city on Thursday. Huge queues were seen outside these pandals with people eagerly waiting to take darshan. 

Kasba Ganpati, the first revered Ganpati is also the village deity. The idol was installed at 11.25 am. Shrikant Shete, President of Kasba Ganpati Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, said, “At 8.45 am we started with the procession with Avartan, Prabhat and Shriram Dhol Tasha Pathak. The pranpratishtha, i.e, the pooja and installation of the idol was done by Bhaiyyaji Joshi, Sahkaryavah of RSS, at 11.25 am. Right from the time we started the procession till the installation of the idol, devotees walked along with us.” 

The second Manacha Ganpati - Tambdi Jogeshwari Ganpati at Laxmi Road also witnessed a huge rush with young and old trying to get a glimpse of Lord Ganesh. Rajesh Tikkar, President of Tambdi Jogeshwari Ganeshotsav Mandal, said, “At 10 am the procession started and at 12.30 pm the pranpratishtha was done. Amol Ravetkar of Ravetkar Group carried out the pooja.” 

The third Manacha Ganpati - Guruji Talim Ganpati had a low-profile procession and installation of the idol as mandal President Pravin Pardeshi’s wife passed away on Wednesday. Sanjay Naniwadekar, Vice President of Guruji Talim Sarvajanik Ganpati Mandal, said, “The sudden death of our president’s wife shocked us all. But to carry on with the tradition we took out the procession but kept it very low profile. The procession was just carried out for five minutes and then the idol was installed.”

The fourth Manacha Ganpati is Tulshibaug Ganpati. Vivek Khatavkar, President of Tulsibaug Ganpati Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, said, “Lakhs and crores of people from Pune and other cities and countries visit our mandal which makes us feel good. Every year the number keeps on increasing because of the faith and we try to keep the faith alive by not making any decorative themes but just keeping it in a traditional way.” 

“At 10.30 am the processions started and at 12.30 pm the pranpratishtha was done by Janmejayraje Bhosale, Founder President of Shri Swami Samarth Annachhatra Mandal Akkalkot,” Khatavkar added. 

The fifth Manacha Ganpati is Kesari Wada Ganpati. Rohit Tilak, great-grandson of freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Managing Trustee of Kesari Wada, said, “It is good to see that people, especially the youngsters have faith in celebrating or participating in the traditional festivals of the city. From the last several years the footfall of youngsters visiting the Ganpati in Kesariwada increased which is a very encouraging.” 

“At 10.30 am the procession started and at 1.30 pm the pranpratishtha was done by me along with family members including Deepak Tilak, Praniti Rohit Tilak and Geetali Mone Tilak.”
