Delay in job, exam notifications ups anxiety among students

PUNE: The imposition of President’s rule in the State has increased the anxiety among students preparing for competitive examination as they are in a dilemma whether any new job vacancies would open or not.

“If there is no government, there won’t be an opening of new job vacancies,” the students said.

Similarly, the high cost incurred in the city for living vis-a-vis preparing for the competitive examination has already started giving goosebumps to the students. A few of them have decided to go back to their native places till any new notification regarding the vacancies or the time-table for the competitive/departmental examinations to be held next year during October-November is issued.

Anil Mane, a student preparing for the competitive exams, said, “Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) used to schedule their next year’s time table during October or November but it seems the notification has been delayed for the year 2020 exams or may not come out due to the imposition of President’s rule in the State,” said Mane.

Most of the students come from rural background and rent a house for a year, join classes and prepare for the State departmental exams.

Nitesh Wase, a student preparing for the competitive exams and a resident of Nagpur, said, “I have been preparing for the different State government exams from the last two years. The government has filled Class A, B, C group posts earlier. The result is still pending but till now, no new notification is out for the other vacant posts, therefore I have planned to go to my hometown.”

Prabhakar Durge, a resident of Yavatmal who has been preparing for the competitive examination from the last three years, said, “It’s been tough to live in Pune when no exam schedule has been announced. It costs Rs 10,000 to 12,000 per month for food and other daily expenditure. I feel no point in asking for more money from my parents.”

Officials from MPSC, who do not want to be named, said, “After detailed study and review of the vacant posts in the different State departments, the concerned authorities will take a final call.” There have already been several exams conducted by the State and Centre. These examinations are generally pre-planned.

When asked about the new job notification, the officials said that they would take a final decision after getting the green signal from the higher authorities.
