Cyclone Bulbul Affects Pune-Kolkata Flight Services

PUNE: Due to Cyclone Bulbul, which is likely to make landfall on Saturday night, the air service between Kolkata and Pune will be affected. Several flights are cancelled and passengers are looking for other options.

Operations at Kolkata airport will be suspended for 12 hours beginning 6 pm on Saturday. “Due to very severe cyclone Bulbul, operations at Kolkata airport are being suspended from 1800 hours on November 9 up to 0600 hours on November 10,” a Home Ministry official said.

Indigo Airlines issued a press statement: “Due to severe cyclonic storm currently moving from the Bay of Bengal towards Kolkata area and reaching by late evening today, Indigo has implemented proactive cancellations. All the passengers of the affected domestic flights are being notified and alternative arrangements being offered.”

SpiceJet also issued a statement: “In view of Cyclone Bulbul, SpiceJet is offering a full refund and waiver of cancellation/ change fee (fare difference applicable) for the flights to/ from Kolkata for travel till November 10.”

The Kolkata airport issued an advisory note on Saturday, which said: “Due to the impact of Cyclone Bulbul with strong crosswinds and likely wind shear in approaches, flight operations at Kolkata Airport will be discontinued. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.” 

Several passengers who booked tickets between Kolkata and Pune have got reimbursed their amount. Sources from both airlines (Spice and Indigo) said flights have been cancelled. The passengers have been informed by text messages.
