Customs seize 154 kg ganja; fourth case in two months 

Pune: The officers of Pune Customs seized 154.88 kg ganja worth Rs 7.50 lakh from a car at Lonikand Alandi Phata on Monday. This is the fourth case of ganja detected by the officials in the last two months and 430 kg ganja worth Rs 21.50 lakh (approx) has been seized and five persons were arrested.

According to the official, “They received an input from sources about a Maruti Swift Dzire registered with Telangana (TS 07 UB 6640) was coming at Lonikand and carrying ganja. As per the tip-off, the team stopped the car at Lonikand-Alandi Phata and arrested the driver Suresh Banoth, a resident of Bakka Rupala Tanda, Maripeda, district Mobas, Telangana.” 

The seized ganja packed in plastic bags was cleverly concealed inside the vehicle boot (dicky) and rear seat. The vehicle was coming from Khammam, Telangana and going to Panvel, Mumbai. 

“The ganja was recovered from the vehicle and seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act 1985 as possessing, carrying, transporting narcotics and psychotropic substance is an offence under the NDPS Act 1985. In the statement recorded under the Act, Suresh admitted of possession carriage, concealment and recovery of the ganja,” said the official.
