PUNE: Officials of the Crime Branch Unit III of the city police on Monday nabbed two persons for allegedly possessing brown sugar (a narcotic) worth Rs 77 lakh near Chandni Chowk.
According to Police Inspector Rajendra Mokashi of Crime Branch Unit III, the Crime Branch team was on patrolling duty. While crossing Chandani Chowk, they spotted a man and a woman near Pratham Elite building. Mokashi said the man
and woman were trying to avoid police officials and were trying to flee from the spot when they were nabbed by the police.
“When the duo was frisked they were found in possession of 1.5 kg brown sugar, a narcotic drug and so the duo was arrested. The drug in the Indian market is worth Rs 77 lakh,” added Mokashi.
Police Sub-Inspector Sanjay Gaikwad said the duo hailed from Koliwada in Mumbai. The accused were identified as Vasanti Devendra (57) and Selvam Devendra (57). The police are investigating whether the accused are regular drug peddlers and are also trying to identify their source of drugs. The investigation team included Assistant Police Inspector Bhalchandra Dhavle, Police Sub-Inspector Kiran Adgale, policemen Sandip Talekar, Sachin Gaikwad, Pravin Tapkir, Wilson Dsouza, Machindra Walke, Rahul Ghadge, Gajan Ganbote and Ramda Ganbote.
