Crime Branch nabs 2, seizes 27 stolen bikes

Pune: Sleuths from the Crime Branch Unit 5 of Pune city police on Monday arrested two persons and claimed to have seized 27 stolen bikes worth Rs 9.65 lakh from their possession. 

The police suspect they are involved in the theft of about 45 bikes.

Acting on a tip-off received by Head Constable Amzad Pathan, a team led by PSI Somnath Shendge nabbed Shubham Vinod Bhandare (25) of Parbhani who lived in Latur and Chetan Ravindra Himgire (26) of Sangli district, who resided in Hadapsar.

“They were caught in Kalepadal locality of Hadapsar while riding a Royal Enfield motorcycle without a number plate. When checked by our team, it was found that the bike was stolen from Parbhani area. The accused duo had prepared fake registration certificate (RC) book of the vehicle. During the investigation, our team recovered 27 stolen bikes from their possession. Two more persons in their gang are yet to be arrested,” informed Additional CP (Crime) Ashok Morale.

DCP (Crime) Bachchan Singh added, “We suspect that the accused persons have stolen more than 45 bikes till now. The accused used to prepare fake registration certificate book and sell them at throw-away prices in rural areas including Parbhani, Latur and Nanded. They had also mortgaged some of the bikes to obtain loan money.”

The investigation team included ACP (Crime II) Bhanupratap Barge, Police Inspector Datta Chavan, API Bhalchandra Dhavale, Santosh Tasgaonkar and policemen Santosh Mohite, Pradip Surve, Pravin Shinde, Rajesh Ransing, Datta Katam, Rajabhau Bhorde, Sanjay Deshmukh, Kerba Galande, Mahesh Salvi, Daya Shegar, Sachin Gholap, Pramod Gaikwad, Ankush Jogdande, Mahesh Waghmare, Pravin Kalbhor, Pramod Ghadge and Sanjay Dalvi.
