Pune: Three robbers who had looted Rs 3.23 lakh in cash from a man in Baner on Saturday, were caught within 12 hours of the incident by the sleuths from the Anti-Dacoity Cell (ADC) of Pune police Crime Branch. The police officials recovered Rs 2.73 lakh cash and seized the bike of the robbers.
The police identified the suspects as Pramod Vyankatesh Telgu (19), Umesh Adinarayan Boya (19) and Yogesh Dhanraj Dravid (22).
The incident took place around 11.30 am near State Bank of India branch in Baner. The three motorcycle-riding youths chased an office assistant, Umesh Shivaji Kadam (30), hit him with a stone and forcibly snatched his bag containing Rs 3 lakh. Kadam was going to deposit the cash in the bank. He sustained serious head injuries. The entire robbery was captured by CCTV cameras. Police said that he is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Wakad and he is out of danger.
A team led by Police Inspector Rajendra Kadam of the ADC nabbed the suspects around 9.30 pm in Ashoknagar slums near JSPMS College in Tathawade. Police have charged the accused persons for offences under sections 394 (robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. An FIR in this regard has been registered with Chatuhshrungi police station.
DCP (Crime) Pankaj Dahane, ACP (Crime I) Sameer Shaikh supervised the investigating team which included API Vidyulata Chavan, Laxman Dhengle, PSI Sanjay Dalvi and police personnel Yashwant Abre, Vinayak Pawar, Nilesh Patil, Bashir Sayyed, Mahesh Kadam, Sachin Gaikwad, Shailesh Surve, Dattatray Katam, Ajay Thorat, Mallikarjun Swami, Ramdas Gonte, Parvez Jamadar and Praveen Jadhav.
