COVID-19 Pune: Will issue notices to industries not taking precautions over coronavirus spread, says Divisional Collector

Pune: Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao has warned that several companies, industries are not taking necessary precautions to curb the spread of coronavirus spread in their premises and as a result, the cases in the industrial belt are increasing. These companies will be issued notices and if they continue to falter then action will be taken against them under the Epidemic Diseases Act, he said.

Several elected representatives including Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Member of Parliament (MP) had complained about the lackadaisical attitude of companies and industries regarding the precautionary and preventive measures to be implemented in their units and premises to control the COVID-19 cases. Workers, employees are getting affected by COVID-19 due to lack of these measures and as a result, the entire district is suffering from a higher count of COVID-19 cases. The elected representatives voiced their concerns during a review meeting with Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao responded to this and assured that the companies will be issued notices.

Rao said, "The number of COVID-19 patients is coming under control in Pune city. On the contrary, the number is increasing in Pimpri-Chinchwad and the rural areas of Pune district. Therefore, guidelines laid down by the Central and State Governments should be followed to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The notices would be issued to companies in industrial estates in the district, including Chakan and Ranjangaon, as they are found not abiding by the norms."

Campaign for plasma donation

Rao said, "A special campaign for plasma donation with the help of health department, district administration, police and NGOs will be launched from Saturday (August 15). There are many misconceptions related to plasma donation which will be addressed through the campaign. It will also create awareness to make families aware of plasma availability."

Plasma treatment in a private hospital

"Critical patients in Sassoon Hospital are treated with plasma, however, Sassoon does not provide plasma to critically ill patients in other private hospitals. Now it has been decided to make plasma available to critical patients in private or government hospitals if they need it," Rao added.
