Pune: Pune Municipal Corporation has issued a new list of revised containment zones in the city. The total number of new micro-containment zones have now been reduced to 66. This new list has included Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Model Colony areas, Kothrud and Paud road areas as the new micro-containment zones.
PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar has issued this new list of containment zones in the city which is being implement from Tuesday (August 18) up to further notice. Earlier the micro-containment zones in the city were 75 which have now come down by 9. Commissioner Kumar said that the PMC reviews containment zones in the city regularly and the areas are removed from the list if the number of Covid-19 cases are reduced or vice versa.
In the new micro-containment zone list, Savitribai Phule Pune University has been added under the Shivajinagar area. The other areas in Shivajinagar that are mentioned in the list are Gokhale Nagar, Narveer Tanaji Wadi, Dhobi Ghat, Yashoda Society near Om Super Market, etc.
The entire area of Jay Bhavani Nagar, Paud road and Kothrud has also been included in the revised list of containment zones. The number of micro-containment zones in Kothrud area have been increased considerably. Kothrud was earlier a green zone in which lowest number of Covid-19 cases were identified. Gujarat Colony, Vrundawan Colony, Shubhankar Apartment, Shreeram Colony, Shinde Colony are some prominent areas which are now a part of the micro-containment zones where movement of residents and vehicles has been restricted.
PMC has also asked to remove barricades which were put up to restrict movement of citizens and vehicles in those containment zones which are now excluded. The area incident commander has been given the right to seal any building, area or locality if more than 5 cases of Covid-19 are found there. In containment zones, only essential services are allowed and there is restriction on shop timings too.
