COVID-19 Pune: RTO to hold license test early to avoid rush, spread of virus

Pune: With the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Pune, the importance of maintaining social distancing is on everyone's mind. Concerning the same, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has planned to start their working early morning from 7.30 am onwards to avoid the rush.

The demand for permanent and learner's licenses has seen a considerable increase during the outbreak. Therefore, the Regional Transport Office has now decided to conduct tests for learner's license from 7.30 am onwards. RTO Ajit Shinde informed that this decision will be implemented from Monday.

As per the suggestion of Transport officer, the Pune RTO has revoked the quota for permanent and learner's license. After receiving complaints in this regard, the commissioner instructed all the offices in the state to increase the quota as well as duration, and handle it well. Accordingly, the Pune office has also increased the quota of learner's license from 400 to 650, the quota of two-wheeler for a permanent license has also increased from 260 to 440 and the quota for four-wheeler from 200 to 340.

As the question for maintaining a safe distance arises, Shinde has promised to start the tests early in the morning.

"The test for the learner's license will be conducted from 7.30 am to 6 pm. During this time, 100 candidates will be tested in a span of one and a half hours. For this, seven groups will be formed. Therefore, the quota of learner's licenses has been increased by 50 to 700. Accordingly, quota time can be taken online," informed Shinde. He also explained that the measures were taken to protect the crowd from COVID-19.
