Pimpri-Chinchwad city is on top of the COVID-19 wave of cases. Amid this surge, the jumbo hospital set up has got delayed, due to which the common citizens are facing hardships while finding hospital beds, especially those with oxygen and ventilator support.

PCMC officials said that the jumbo hospital facility will be ready by two to three days as most of the technical work like oxygen tank installations and other electrical wiring work is still pending. The jumbo hospital will have 150 ventilator beds and a separate intensive care unit.

The Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) hospital in Pimpri has been converted into a dedicated COVID-19 hospital. It has 90 beds in the ICU of which 50 are ventilator beds. However, the patient flow from rural areas and cantonment areas nearby Pimpri-Chinchwad has burdened the healthcare facilities in Pimpri-Chinchwad. PCMC has also made arrangements for 125 ambulances to reduce the search time for ambulances by patients and their relatives.

Every day on an average of 900 to 1,000 cases of COVID-19 are being reported from the Pimpri-Chinchwad city area. The positivity rate of PCMC areas is around 25 to 27 per cent. PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar told media persons that the curve will be bent only after a few weeks, probably in September first or second week.

PCMC has also started a special drive for conducting COVID-19 tests on superspreaders like traders and hawkers in the city. A large number of tests are being conducted in containment areas besides contact tracing of persons outside the containment zones.

Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao, had previously blamed 'Act of God' for slowing down the construction and other work of jumbo hospital facilities in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities. Rao had claimed that the rains have played havoc due to which the functioning of hospital facilities has got delayed.
