Pune: Out of the 7 lakh active workforce functioning in 70 thousand industries, only 70 employees have been tested positive for COVID-19. The cases reported were from 22 different locations including Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The locations from where these infections were reported are Ranjangaon, Chakan, Bhor (Varve), Sanaswadi, Kothrud, Chinchwad, Hinjawadi and Wakad industrial areas. Out of these locations, only two - Kothrud and Bhor - have reported a large number of cases - 20 and 14 respectively. Other 20 industries had only one or two cases in their premises.
After the first three lockdowns, industries in the state were allowed to reopen. The state government had given them clear instructions and guidelines about the precautions to be taken while operating and when a COVID-positive patient is found on the premises. By and large, all companies and industrial units have complied with the guidelines which have resulted in successful containment of the coronavirus.
Sadashiv Suravase, Joint Director (Industries) said, "The state government has given clear orders related to the guidelines which need to be followed by the industries. All the industries and companies are complying with these orders and that is the major reason for the success in combating COVID-19."
Santosh Bhave, HR Director, Bharat Forge said, "We are sanitising every vehicle entering the company premises. Health checkup for each employee has been conducted and we are maintaining a record of it. We are also ensuring that unnecessary crowding does not happen at places like canteens. Instead of regular tea, employees are being offered kadha (immune booster drink) to increase their immunity levels. We have circulated a video and distributed a handbook related to the precautions to be taken to prevent coronavirus spread."
