COVID-19 Pune: Naval Kishore Ram warns private doctors to serve at least for 15 days, or face action

Pune: Private doctors in Pune should provide at least 15 days of service at the COVID Care Center or special COVID-19 Hospitals set up by the Municipal Corporation, the District Collector Naval Kishore Ram has warned. Further to this, he has said that action will be taken against those who do not provide their services.

The order was passed by the Collector recently since the number of coronavirus patients in Pune has increased rapidly. The municipality has set up various COVID Care Centers and COVID Hospitals for the incoming people with specialised facilities.

Since the Municipal Corporation says that it is facing a deficiency of doctors, the administration is trying to acquire the services of more private doctors. The Collector has issued these orders by sending letters to private doctors who are working for the Pune Municipal Corporation as well as for the Pimpri Chinchwad and the District Health Officer.

"The doctors need to work at such a center for at least 15 days. Their services need to be engaged to prevent the spread of corona. Accordingly, this office should be informed in the next three days where the concerned doctors are going to serve at their convenience."

The letter also warned that private doctors who refuse to provide their services would be prosecuted under the Infectious Diseases Act 1897 and other laws.

In the meantime, it is not clear whether the service will be with an honorarium or without honorarium. Meanwhile, private doctors of 55 years and above, as well as doctors with various risky ailments have been excluded from the order. Doctors working in state, central, or municipal hospitals are also excluded from the order.
