COVID-19 Pune: Feasibility study underway for two jumbo hospital facilities in city

Pune: District administration in coordination with Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations has undertaken a feasibility study to finalise the proposed additional two jumbo hospital facilities in the city. First jumbo facility has been finalised in Shivajinagar area at College of Engineering Pune (COEP) while other two may come up at Sanas ground near Saras Baug, AISSMS College, Balewadi or the Public Works Department (PWD) ground at Sangvi.

Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr Deepak Mhaisekar and Officer on Special Duty Saurabh Rao gave out the details of these proposed jumbo facilities during an online media interaction on Monday evening.

Rao said, “The jumbo facilities are being planned as per instructions of Guardian Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. A total 1800 oxygenated beds and 600 Intensive Care Units (ICU) beds will be made available at these jumbo facilities latest by August 20. We are studying various technical aspects like the gradient of the land, drainage and water supply and uninterrupted power supply, etc. Any two locations out of the four proposed will be finalised in a day or two and the further administrative process will be initiated.”

“The work orders for the three jumbo facilities will be processed simultaneously to fast track the project. We have already published notice for an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the first facility. Similar EOI will be published in two days (by July 29) for the rest of the two facilities. There won’t be any major lag between the three work orders and the completion of work,” Rao said.

Dr Mhaisekar said, “For the first facility EOI, we have received some queries which will be answered immediately. Work order for this facility will be issued by July 29 or July 30 and in the next 15 to 20 days the facility will be ready to be operational.”

“There will be two jumbo facilities for Pimpri-Chinchwad city. The tender process for a 50 ICU bed facility in the auto cluster and 425 beds facility at Bal Bhavan is completed,” Mhaisekar added.
